Pond of Shoes

Top Feet: Philip Lim for Birkenstock
Left Feet: Purchased @ Century 21
Right Feet: Dolce Vita

The fabulous feet of ladies at lunch. My summer footwear has not been nearly as inspired - I have been wearing a pair of no-name, black, ked-ish sneakers almost everyday. Though, today I am wearing my flower power Docs and am enjoying the far superior comfort and arch support.

On a side note, the identity of Fluff Chance of The Emperor’s Old Clothes was revealed in the Times today! And, if you haven't looked at this in a while, or ever, you probably should.

Trust Fund Baby

T Shirt: Helmut Lang
Sunny's: 5$ from St. Marks
Jeans: Levis
Shoes: Birkenstocks
Bike: Ross

John has a seasonal job. Seasonal jobs are the greatest as you get time off that can actually be enjoyed. This picture is from yesterday. After I was done work (my job is not seasonal) John and I rode our bikes to meet Lesley at the Gowanus Yacht Club. John rode up to my office at 6pm all relaxed and happy - looking like one of those people (that are way to young to be retired) that can be seen strolling around the city, chilling in the East Village, or eating a nice brunch/ having a nice drink at any time of day, any day of the week. Who are these people? Why is New York so full of them? Do they all have seasonal jobs? I doubt it.

The New Sneeze

2009 will be remembered for a lot of long lasting and significant trends- Michelle O's bold bare arms, round glasses, bahn mi sandwiches, the return of ditsy dresses and doc martins (and 90's style in general), biking as the new black, haute barnyard/locavore cuisine, and staycations are just a few of this year's heavy hitters. But perhaps the single most important trend of 2009 (I know, its a bit early to be making such a bold call) is the New Sneeze.

The New Sneeze, also known as the Sleeve Sneeze is revolutionary in its obviousness. A direct result of H1N1 hysteria (which is warranted, this flu packs a mean punch) the Sleeve Sneeze prevents germs from landing on the hands, which cannot always be washed or anti-bacterialized right after a traditional sneeze, by taking the germ hit in the crook of the arm, an area that is far less likely to touch, or be touched directly. So simple, yet so smart.

One draw back to this otherwise faultless fad is the effect it may have on clothing. How will the inner sleeve region stand up to all the sneezing action? Will designers begin making reinforced inner sleeves? Perhaps inside elbow patches are going to be the shoulder pads of 2010? I certainly wouldn't mind if they replaced the ultra low V trend that's been happening on men's t-shirts for the past few seasons.

Influenza Porcina + Barbie

John I spent the past 2 weeks in Costa Rica and, for the most part, it was amazing. The country is beauteous and we were able to spend a lot of time with two of John's old planting friends who also happen to be two of best people in the universe. Our trip was only planned for one week, but while chilling on the Caribbean coast John and I managed to contract Influenza Porcina (for my non-Spanish speaking readers that is H1N1, or the flu formerly known as Swine Flu) and were detained by the Ministry of Health for 7 days. Getting sick (very sick) in a foreign country seriously sucks. Good times are 100% dependent on good health. It is so easy to take our bodies and well being for granted. Despite how we may feel, and in spite of John's unbelievably low heart rate (54 beats per minute!) and blood pressure, we were humbly reminded that we are not invincible. The primary lesson learned from our misadventure is that we will never book a trip without travel insurance again. The secondary lesson learned is that the Barbie packaging in Cost Rica is beyond hilarious (fine, this is an unrelated lesson, but it did provide us with some laughter on one of our sick days).

Welcome to the Jungle

Our neighborhood Jaguar. No big deal. Heading to the jungle for a week. Perhaps I'll bring home some sloths or monkeys to keep the jag company.

I want to be the girl with the most cake

There is something creepy and dark about dolls that I love. I saw these at a little shop in Cape May, NJ over the weekend and I've had Doll Parts in my head ever since. Hole's 1994 Live Through This album kicks major ass and should be listened to/downloaded/owned by all females.

Note to self:

I love working in an industry that is both creative and challenging. However, I do not love the idea of making stuff for the sake of stuff. I am committed to not lose site of my ultimate goal- to find/create the opportunity where form is equal to function.

Candid Camera

Tank: Alexander Wang (on sale at Barneys Coop)
Skirt: Helmut Lang
Boots: Frye
Glasses: John Lennon brand from Cohen's Fashion Optical

The beginning of tequila infused night at Jamie's apartment. I get serious satisfaction out of wearing an outfit that should cost a whole bunch but in actuality did not cost very much at all. It is also nice to know that if I am ever really strapped for cash (which is a scarily real possibility in our volatile economy) I have some heavy hitting labels in my closet that I could unload to make rent for at least a couple of months.

Explosions in the Sky

Spent the long weekend down the shore in Cape May, NJ. There is nothing better than good friends, good food, beaches, surreys and beautiful weather.

Boat Basin Blues

Jeans: Used Levis from Kenzington Market
Ballet Flats: Joe Fresh
T-shirt: American Apparel
Blazer: Theory
Canvas Bag: Muji

Went to the Boat Basin Cafe the other night for a Canada Day (seems to be the theme of my week) party hosted by the Canadian Association of New York. I've never really been one to officially join teams or clubs (though I was on the McGill Ultimate Frisbee Varsity B team) but CANY offered a deal that was too sweet to resist. 20 bucks to become a member,10 bucks to get into the party, show up at the party, sign in and receive a voucher for a round trip ticket to Toronto on Porter Airlines. The party was 'aight, I enjoyed drinking Molson and Labatt plus, I ran into someone I haven't seen since grade school which is always entertaining. If you are Canadian and living in NY, I highly recommend you join CANY, so that you too can reap the benefits of this brilliant promotion- unless you hate 30.00$ plane tickets and avoiding the hellish lines at YYZ.

Neil, The Hip, Smarties,Toronto hot dog vendors, The Group of Seven, Canoe trips in Algonquin Park....

"I miss the “u” in color." — LISA NAFTOLIN, a creative director
"In history class, in seventh grade (or as we like to say in Canada, grade seven) we learned the story of the American Revolution — from the British perspective. Turns out you were all a bunch of ungrateful tax cheats. And you weren’t very nice to the Loyalists. What I miss most about Canada is getting the truth about the United States."
— MALCOLM GLADWELL, a staff writer for The New Yorker and the author, most recently, of “Outliers: The Story of Success”
Check out Our True North in today's New York Times- 11 Canadians living in the United States share what they miss most about home. What do you miss or love most about our home and native land?
