Influenza Porcina + Barbie
John I spent the past 2 weeks in Costa Rica and, for the most part, it was amazing. The country is beauteous and we were able to spend a lot of time with two of John's old planting friends who also happen to be two of best people in the universe. Our trip was only planned for one week, but while chilling on the Caribbean coast John and I managed to contract Influenza Porcina (for my non-Spanish speaking readers that is H1N1, or the flu formerly known as Swine Flu) and were detained by the Ministry of Health for 7 days. Getting sick (very sick) in a foreign country seriously sucks. Good times are 100% dependent on good health. It is so easy to take our bodies and well being for granted. Despite how we may feel, and in spite of John's unbelievably low heart rate (54 beats per minute!) and blood pressure, we were humbly reminded that we are not invincible. The primary lesson learned from our misadventure is that we will never book a trip without travel insurance again. The secondary lesson learned is that the Barbie packaging in Cost Rica is beyond hilarious (fine, this is an unrelated lesson, but it did provide us with some laughter on one of our sick days).
